What is a title transfer?

Simply put, A title transfer will change the title of ownership to your current name or to the name of the person to whom you sold or gifted the possession such as a car. A title transfer is a document proving who is the legal owner of the vehicle.

Transfer of Title means change in ownership. Mere transfer of custody or possession over goods or immovable property where ownership is not transferred does not amount to transfer of title.

How long does it take to transfer a title?

Typically, a new title is mailed out within two weeks. Overall, completing a title transfer is relatively smooth process as long as you have all required documents and properly navigate the process, especially acquiring a bill of sale if purchasing a new vehicle.

Does Louisiana require a notary on title transfers?

It is necessary to notarize the bill of sale, invoice, or title. However, if a trade vehicle is listed on the bill of sale, it must be notarized. If a tax credit is shown on an invoice, the invoice must be notarized.
